Stephen Adjokatcher, President of GIFF, Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, CEO GSA, General Secretary TAGG, Nana Poku are key figures in the Ghanaian shipping industry who are working towards transforming and improving the sector.
Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), recently highlighted the importance of the newly amended Ghana Shippers’ Authority Law in revolutionizing the commercial shipping sector. The law aims to streamline shipping operations, enhance freight forwarding efficiency, and align with international trade standards. Sarpong emphasized the need for collective action among stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the law, which will ultimately reduce the cost of doing business in Ghana and strengthen the country’s position as a leading trade hub in the region.
Stephen Adjokatcher, President of GIFF, expressed his support for the new legislation, foreseeing greater transparency and accountability in the industry. He believes that the law will drive improved revenue collection and contribute to national economic growth. Sampson Asaki Awingobit, Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, also welcomed the changes, noting that they address long-standing calls for reform and are expected to alleviate shipping delays and reduce costs.
During a stakeholder meeting organized by GIFF, which brought together industry players such as CUBAG, ACHAG, the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, and TAG, concerns were addressed by Kwesi Baffour Sarpong. He stressed the importance of preparing for the development of a Legislative Instrument (LI) to facilitate the law’s implementation and called for ongoing dialogue and feedback from the industry to address any emerging issues promptly. The meeting concluded with a unanimous commitment to work collaboratively towards achieving the goals of the new Shippers’ Authority Law.
As Ghana aims to position itself as a regional trade hub, the successful implementation of the new law is expected to significantly enhance the country’s economic growth. With the support and cooperation of key industry players like Stephen Adjokatcher, Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, and others, Ghana’s commercial shipping sector is poised for positive transformation and growth.
