Construction Commences on the New Harbour Landing Joint Use School | News and Media

The community of Harbour Landing in Regina is set to welcome a new joint-use elementary school, with construction officially underway as of August 6, 2024. This new school facility, located on 11 acres of land at the corner of Gordon Road and Campbell Street, marks a significant milestone in the development of the area.

Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the collaborative effort between the government and project partners. The school is expected to provide families with innovative learning and child care facilities for years to come, catering to the growing population in Harbour Landing.

The initial phase of construction involves underground and surface level work on roadways, sidewalks, and utility connections to prepare the site for the new school building. PME Construction will lead this phase, with construction procurement expected to begin in early September. SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Terry Jenson emphasized the importance of the new school in supporting the community’s educational needs.

The joint-use school facility is designed to accommodate up to 500 Regina Public and 350 Regina Catholic students, along with 90 new child care spaces. Regina Board of Education Chairperson Sarah Cummings Truszkowski acknowledged the community’s support for the project, emphasizing the collaborative effort between various levels of government and stakeholders.

Regina Catholic School Board chair Shauna Weninger echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the shared commitment to providing students with the best possible learning environment. The investment in a new school in Harbour Landing reflects a dedication to the future of education in the area, with both school divisions advocating for additional classroom spaces.

The Government of Saskatchewan’s commitment to school infrastructure projects, including new schools and major renovations, underscores the importance of investing in education. With approximately $2.6 billion allocated towards these projects since 2008, the government is prioritizing the development of quality learning environments for students across the province.

In conclusion, the construction of the new joint-use elementary school in Harbour Landing represents a significant step towards meeting the educational needs of the community. Through collaboration and investment in school infrastructure, the government and project partners are working together to provide students with modern and innovative learning facilities. The new school is poised to become a cornerstone of the Harbour Landing community, supporting its growth and development for years to come.
