Dr. Julia’s Journey: From Cardiologist to Online Educator
Dr. Julia, a practicing cardiologist, never imagined herself opening an online school until 2018. While working in a state clinic, she noticed systemic errors in patient care and started gathering colleagues for roundtable discussions to share her knowledge and experience as a cardiologist. This informal teaching experience sparked the idea of starting her own online school.
In 2017, Dr. Julia started an Instagram blog about cardiology for patients, where she explained symptoms, diagnostics, and how to maintain heart health in simple terms. Despite having only around 150 followers, her blog attracted not only patients but also fellow doctors.
One of her followers, a young doctor seeking guidance, approached Dr. Julia for mentorship. Impressed by her mentorship, the young doctor encouraged Dr. Julia to consider teaching. This interaction planted the seed for Dr. Julia’s online teaching venture.
Dr. Julia created a separate Instagram account for doctors and announced her new platform for medical education. Initially, around 40 people joined. She conducted live sessions sharing her expertise on various heart conditions and answering audience questions. The online course she developed covered five topics on heart diseases and included clinical case studies and ECG analysis.
With each new course offering, Dr. Julia’s online school grew. By the end of 2018, she transitioned her courses to a specialized platform and increased the price. As the demand for her courses grew, Dr. Julia expanded her team to include a marketer and a technical specialist, marking a significant investment in her venture.
Over the years, Dr. Julia continued to enhance her teaching skills by undergoing training in coaching and methodology. She also collaborated with a business mentor to refine her courses and offerings based on audience feedback and industry trends.
As the workload increased, Dr. Julia hesitated to delegate tasks to course curators. However, by carefully selecting and training a team of curators, she successfully offloaded responsibilities and improved student satisfaction. The introduction of curators not only eased her workload but also allowed for the launch of new courses and a graduates‘ club, leading to a substantial increase in revenue.
Dr. Julia’s journey from a cardiologist to an online educator showcases the importance of adapting to changing demands, investing in continuous learning, and building a supportive team. Her commitment to quality education and student engagement has positioned her online school, Cardio School, as a leading platform for medical professionals seeking advanced training in cardiology.
