The tragic death of 20-year-old Aresly Jaramillo in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, has left her loved ones seeking answers and calling for change. Jaramillo was struck and killed by a Dallas police officer while responding to a call for help. The incident occurred on Elam Road just after 7 p.m. when Jaramillo ran in front of two cars trying to make a left turn onto Cedarcliff Drive and then in front of the fast-moving eastbound police car.
The Dallas Police stated that the officer was in a marked squad car responding to a call without the lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash near Crawford Memorial Park. Despite the officer giving Jaramillo first aid until she was taken to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away the following morning. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
Jaramillo’s mother, Tabita Jasso, recounted the heartbreaking moment when she said goodbye to her daughter for the last time. She expressed her devastation, emphasizing the dangerous conditions of Elam Road and the lack of safety measures such as marked crosswalks. Jasso called for action from the City of Dallas to address the hazardous situation and prevent future tragedies.
Dallas City Councilman Jaime Resendez, who represents the neighborhood where the incident occurred, acknowledged the need for improved safety measures in the area. He has requested the city to evaluate the installation of crosswalks and other safety features to enhance pedestrian safety. Resendez emphasized the importance of implementing traffic calming measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with Dallas police withholding details about the nature of the call the officer was responding to and why the lights and siren were not activated. The lack of transparency has left Jaramillo’s loved ones and the community seeking clarity and accountability in the aftermath of this devastating incident.
As the community mourns the loss of Aresly Jaramillo, her tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the importance of pedestrian safety and the need for enhanced measures to protect individuals on the roads. The call for change and increased safety measures in the area highlights the urgency of addressing traffic concerns to prevent further tragedies and ensure the well-being of all residents in Dallas.
