The Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Ioannina is set to honor renowned educator David Guralnick with an honorary doctorate. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, July 10th, at 7:30 pm in the „Georgios Mylonas“ Hall of Ceremonies at the University of Ioannina.
David Guralnick is a globally recognized expert in the field of e-learning and the use of technology in education and professional performance. With over 30 years of experience, he has made significant contributions to the field. Guralnick is the creator of the first learning-by-doing simulation and the „Watch, Rate, and Compare“ e-learning method, which has been utilized in over 200 courses and received the prestigious Comenius Award in 2012 from the Society for Pedagogy and Information in Germany.
Moreover, Guralnick has designed various e-learning tools for educators, including the award-winning Encompass™ E-Learning Toolkit. He has also advanced research in e-learning by founding The Learning Ideas Conference and serving as the president of the International E-Learning Association (IELA).
Guralnick earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Ohio State University in 1988 and his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1995. His doctoral dissertation, „An Authoring Tool for Procedural-Task Training,“ laid the foundation for his groundbreaking work in the field of e-learning design.
Throughout his career, Guralnick has received numerous awards for his innovative work, including the Gold Award for Best Use of Video in Learning from the Brandon Hall Group in collaboration with the Practising Law Institute. His contributions to e-learning have been recognized by organizations such as the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA), where he received the Award of Outstanding Achievement for his course on „Working with Survivors of Domestic Violence.“
In addition to his accolades, Guralnick has authored numerous scientific papers and books and has delivered lectures as a keynote speaker at conferences and seminars in the United States and abroad.
The ceremony honoring David Guralnick will commence with an address from the University of Ioannina’s Rector, Anna K. Batistatou, followed by commendations from the School of Education’s Dean, Polyxeni E. Pange, and the presentation of the resolution, honorary doctorate, and doctoral diploma by the Department of Early Childhood Education’s President, Charilaos K. Zarangas.
