The Persatuan Tuai Rumah Batang Pasai (PTRBP) recently held a meeting to establish their new bureau in Sibu. The formation of the Bureau of Development and Property Security was based on Article 6(3) of the PTRBP Constitution. The chairman, Crennel Andrew Balai, emphasized that the bureau’s primary function would be to promote the development and security of land and the cleanliness of the Pasai River using the Tagang System method involving the Upper Pasai River, Pasai Engkabang, Pasai Bon, and Pasai Sibentik.

The idea for establishing this bureau was proposed by the Deputy Chairman, Marending Serit, who has extensive knowledge of land and river laws. Marending suggested that areas with over 50 longhouses, especially those involving food sources and social economy, should be collectively preserved. In light of this, PTRBP will convene a meeting and invite all the village chiefs in the Batang Pasai area to discuss further actions.

In addition to the Bureau of Development and Property Security led by Marending and assisted by Balong Billy, Abdul Rahman, and Tamin Baling, two other bureaus were also established. The Bureau of Social and Educational Development, headed by Amie Enteri and assisted by Jurai Betong, and the Bureau of Culture and Social Welfare, led by Miggi Narang and assisted by Angela Meringgai.

As part of their action plan, PTRBP has planned to hold a launching ceremony and request the construction of a multipurpose community hall on Jalan Tanggi Spur for the benefit of all community members. Advisor/Patron of PTRBP, Harry Usup Umbar, who was present at the meeting, advised the village chiefs in the association to work together to achieve the goals and direction of the association as outlined in its constitution.

Harry emphasized three principles that village chiefs and community leaders should uphold: not to compete or appoint themselves as Tuai Rumah if not chosen by their community, to have thick skin, to keep their wives out of official matters, and to collaborate with government agencies regularly.

In conclusion, the establishment of the new bureaus within PTRBP signifies a step towards progress and development in the Batang Pasai area. The commitment of the association’s members, along with the guidance of experienced leaders like Harry Usup Umbar, will undoubtedly lead to positive outcomes for the community. The focus on collaboration, preservation, and community welfare will pave the way for a brighter future for the residents of Batang Pasai.
