Leo Sahlin Wallenius opened the scoring just under four minutes into the game, followed by goals from Jack Berglund and Lucas Pettersson. Team USA found themselves in an early hole but managed to get on the board late in the first period when Austin Burnevik scored off a feed from Chris Pelosi.
In the second period, Joey Willis brought Team USA within one with a well-placed wrist shot past the Swedish goaltender. However, Sweden responded with two more goals to extend their lead to 5-2 heading into the final frame.
Despite the deficit, Team USA continued to battle in the third period. William Whitelaw scored on the power play to cut Sweden’s lead to three, and Jayson Shaugabay added another goal to bring Team USA within striking distance. With the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, Teddy Stiga scored to make it a one-goal game, but Sweden sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Throughout the game, both teams had strong goaltending performances. Sam Hillebrandt started the game for Team USA and made four saves before being replaced by Carsen Musser, who made eight stops in relief.
