As the Chinese New Year celebration approaches, Perak is gearing up for heavy traffic on its roads. With over 2.5 million vehicles expected to enter the state through the North-South Expressway and federal roads, State Infrastructure, Energy, Water, and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin is urging road users to plan their journeys wisely to avoid congestion.
During a media conference at the launch of the 2024 Chinese New Year Road Safety campaign, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar highlighted the expected influx of vehicles from Tanjung Malim to Parit Buntar. He emphasized the importance of using alternative routes, such as the West Coast Expressway (WCE) for travelers coming from Kuala Selangor, Banting, and Sabak Bernam. By diverting traffic to the WCE until Changkat Jering and re-entering the North-South Expressway further north, road users can help ease congestion during peak hours.
The Free Fuel, Free Road Fatality @ Petronas UTP program, held in conjunction with the road safety campaign, provided RON 95 fuel to 300 cars and 500 motorcycles, as well as free engine oil changes for 100 motorcycles. The event also featured display booths from government agencies and local small and medium-sized enterprises, promoting road safety awareness and responsible driving practices.
Perak JPJ director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan and Perak MKJR deputy chairman Datuk Nor Sham Rahman were also present at the event, emphasizing the importance of adhering to travel time advisories (TTA) to prevent traffic congestion. Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar urged all road users to drive safely, take breaks when tired, and avoid driving for more than four hours continuously, especially during the festive season.
As families and friends prepare to reunite for the Chinese New Year celebrations, it is crucial for road users to prioritize safety on the roads. By following travel advisories, using alternative routes when necessary, and practicing responsible driving habits, everyone can contribute to a smoother and safer journey during this busy period. Let us all do our part to ensure a happy and accident-free Chinese New Year celebration in Perak and beyond.
