Exploring the Key Figures Shaping Israel’s Society: Insights from Grapevine – Israel News

Miri Eisin is a name that may ring a bell for many people, especially those who remember her from the time of the Second Lebanon War when she served as the foreign media adviser to then Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. A native Californian who graduated high school in Israel, Eisin is fluent in both Hebrew and English, seamlessly transitioning between the two languages. During the Second Lebanon War, Eisin was a familiar face on television, providing updates on security-related events.

After retiring from the IDF as a colonel, Eisin was recently appointed as the chair of the Taub Center’s board of directors, succeeding Jim Angell. She brings years of experience to this role, having served on the board for several years and worked as a lecturer at Reichman University in Herzliya. Eisin is also actively involved with various organizations focusing on women’s contributions to foreign policy, national security, cybersecurity, and combating antisemitism on social media.

Eisin’s educational background includes a BA from Tel Aviv University, an MA from the University of Haifa, and graduation from the National Security College. During her 20-year military career, she held senior positions in military intelligence, including deputy head of the Combat Intelligence Corps and personal assistant to the director of Military Intelligence. She also presented intelligence findings to the international community during Operation Defensive Shield and served as the government spokesperson to foreign media during the Second Lebanon War.

Since her time as the prime minister’s adviser on foreign media, Eisin has become a sought-after public speaker, known for presenting information in a clear and accessible manner. She is married and has three children.

The Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel, where Eisin now serves as chair, is an independent research institute focused on developing equitable and practical public policy options. The center aims to address socioeconomic challenges in Israel through innovative research and analysis.

In another realm, the Myers-JDC-Brookdale Institute welcomed Professor Michal Grinstein-Weiss as its new director. Grinstein-Weiss, a renowned social researcher and academic, will bring her expertise to the institute’s efforts to tackle new social challenges. With a focus on improving health and socioeconomic mobility for vulnerable populations, Grinstein-Weiss’s work aligns with the institute’s mission of applied social research and consulting.

On a different note, the Sha’annot Collective, comprised of six women artists, recently opened an exhibition in Jerusalem. The collective, which includes artists working in various mediums, supports each other in their artistic endeavors and showcases their diverse works. The exhibition, featuring photographs, drawings, and three-dimensional pieces, explores the interplay of photographs and memory, offering viewers a unique artistic experience.

Lastly, the documentary film „Screams before Silence“ continues to resonate with audiences in the US, shedding light on the experiences of survivors of the October 7 Hamas massacre. The film, featuring interviews conducted by former Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg, highlights the harrowing stories of hostages and survivors, sparking strong reactions among viewers. Panel discussions and screenings of the film provide a platform for dialogue and advocacy on behalf of survivors of sexual violence.

In conclusion, these diverse stories highlight the work of individuals and organizations making a difference in various fields, from social policy research to art and advocacy. Each narrative offers a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of those dedicated to creating positive change in their communities and beyond.
