Nearby, Loco coffee and bookshop, run by Virginia Kunz, caters to a diverse range of literary tastes, from psychology to more unconventional offerings.
For younger readers, Chicken and Frog provides a whimsical setting for children’s books, complete with themed rooms and cozy reading nooks. Owner Joanna Ludbrook, a former school librarian, is passionate about promoting literacy among the town’s youth, despite facing challenges in a market where children’s books are often seen as a luxury.
Featherston’s rich military history is also reflected in Messines Military, New Zealand’s only dedicated military bookstore. Owner Dan Richardson curates a treasure trove of books related to conflicts and military history, attracting enthusiasts and researchers alike.
