Cory Rock is not your typical college student. He didn’t have much interest in traditional education, but he had a passion for excavators and bulldozers. After high school, he decided to join the military instead of pursuing higher education. However, his journey took a turn when he discovered the Heavy Equipment Technician Program at the College of Western Idaho (CWI).
CWI, founded in 2007, has a unique mission of connecting students like Rock with businesses in need of skilled workers. Rock found a perfect fit for his interests and background in the Heavy Equipment Technician Program. He is currently working towards his associate’s degree and has a part-time job with Vermeer, an industrial and agricultural equipment company that partners with CWI. Rock plans to work there full time once he completes his degree.
The growth and success of CWI can be attributed to its commitment to providing affordable, quality, and accessible education. Under the leadership of President Gordon Jones, the college has seen significant expansion in just 15 years. With over 30,000 students currently enrolled, CWI is on track to potentially have 50,000 students in the next 15 years.
