The picturesque Limuru Golf Course is set to host the Kenya Society for the Blind Golf Tournament this Friday, attracting over 100 top amateur golfers to compete for prestigious honors. Established in 1956 under Cap 251 of the Laws of Kenya, the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB) is dedicated to supporting those at risk of blindness and individuals living with visual impairments.
The tournament, scheduled to tee off at 6.30am, aims to raise funds to support education for individuals with visual impairments. Limuru Country Club captain James Githinji expressed his excitement for the event, highlighting the course’s pristine condition and its suitability for an inclusive golfing experience.
„The course is in pristine condition, so we expect a huge turnout on Friday. We are firm believers in inclusivity, therefore hosting this tournament underscores our commitment to supporting people from all walks of life to enjoy this beautiful sport. The wide fairways and lush greenery will provide the golfers with a relaxed ambiance to play their best golf,“ he noted.
Major sponsors for the event include the Kenya National Highways Authority, KCB, United Bank for Africa, COESCA, Rupa’s, and CPF, all contributing to the success of the one-day tournament. Kenya Society for the Blind Executive Director Samson Waweru emphasized the tournament’s role in enhancing the skills of golfers with visual impairments and generating funds for their education.
„This competition is instrumental in improving the game of golf and giving a chance to people with visual impairments to also enjoy themselves on the course. Our aim is to raise enough funds so that we can widen education for the blind and persons with visual impairment,“ he remarked.
The tournament will feature awards for various categories, including longest drive (man and woman), guest winner, best first nine, best second nine, lady runner-up, lady winner, man runner-up, man winner, and overall winner. With a focus on inclusivity and support for individuals with visual impairments, the Kenya Society for the Blind Golf Tournament promises to be a day filled with competitive golf and charitable giving.
