The recent torrential rains in Himachal Pradesh have wreaked havoc in the hilly areas, particularly in Shimla, triggering landslides and causing chaos on the roads. The intense rainfall led to multiple landslides, trapping several vehicles under debris in various districts of the state. Among the affected districts are Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, and Bilaspur, with a yellow alert issued for the remaining districts during the same period.
Amidst the heavy downpour, some vehicles were passing near the mountains when large rocks dislodged from the slopes, engulfing the vehicles on the road. This resulted in 3 to 4 vehicles being trapped in the debris caused by the landslides. Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicles managed to escape and save their lives, thanks to the quick thinking and actions of passers-by who helped in the rescue efforts.
Following the chaos at the scene, a rescue mission was launched by the police and local authorities to assist those affected by the landslides. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for rainfall in five districts of Himachal Pradesh on June 29th and 30th, including Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, and Bilaspur. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts of the state during the same period.
The IMD forecasts that the monsoon will advance across the state in the next three days, with rainfall expected between June 26th and July 1st. In the past 24 hours, districts such as Sirmaur, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Mandi have received light to moderate rainfall. Kotkhai in Shimla received 17 mm of rainfall, Narkanda received 14 mm, Sarahan in Shimla received 6 mm, Nadaun in Hamirpur received 7 mm, and Sundernagar received light rainfall. Temperatures in the region have been relatively normal, with Una recording the highest at 41.4 degrees Celsius, Shimla at 26 degrees Celsius, Solan at 30 degrees Celsius, and Hamirpur and Bilaspur at nearly 39 degrees Celsius.
