In recent news, the Johor police have raised concerns about the infiltration of secret societies actively recruiting secondary school students to join their groups. Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat has revealed that students are being forced to join these secret societies, with the intention of engaging them in criminal activities, such as drug trafficking.
According to Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat, the police have received reports of students being beaten and coerced into joining two specific secret societies known as ‘Hong Hong San Gang’ and ‘Ngo Sek Kee Gang’ in the state of Johor. These incidents have raised alarms within the community, as the recruitment of schoolboys by secret societies is a relatively new phenomenon in the area. It is suspected that urban areas are being targeted by these criminal organizations, as opposed to rural areas.
The police chief emphasized the importance of raising awareness among students, teachers, and parents about the dangers of secret society recruitment in schools. He urged victims and witnesses to come forward and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Additionally, he highlighted the role of school liaison officers (PPS) in dealing with such cases and encouraged schools to collaborate with the police to address the issue effectively.
In response to the recruitment of students by the ‘Hong Hong San Gang’ and ‘Ngo Sek Kee Gang’, six men involved in the case were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 45 of the Organisation Act 1966. Two of the accused individuals pleaded guilty and were fined RM3,000 each by the Muar Magistrate’s Court on October 17.
The police chief’s statements shed light on the growing concern of secret society activities targeting school students in Johor. It is crucial for the community to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting any suspicious behavior to prevent further recruitment and criminal activities among the youth. By working together with law enforcement agencies and educational institutions, steps can be taken to safeguard students and ensure a safe learning environment for all.
