Judge fatally struck by car while walking in Jefferson County

The East Tennessee community is mourning the loss of Judge Okie Duane Slone, a respected and beloved figure in the judicial system. Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck as Judge Slone was walking along E Highway 25/70 in Jefferson County and was fatally struck by a car. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report indicated that the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. as he was walking towards Mountain Vista Trail. Despite the efforts to save him, Judge Slone succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication to his community.

Judge Slone, 61, was a prominent figure in the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court, having been first elected in 1998. His impact extended beyond the courtroom, as he co-founded the Drug Recovery Court in his district in 2009.
