Are you a middle school student who loves science and is looking for a hands-on, interactive experience? Look no further than Kenyon College’s Fall Science Saturday program happening this November! This program, previously known as BLAST off with ATHENAS, is back with an exciting new theme: „Sounds of Science.“
Taking place on Saturday, November 16th, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Kenyon’s Science Quadrangle at 201 N. College Road in Gambier, this program offers a unique opportunity for students in grades 6-8 to explore the world of science through the lens of sound. Participants will have the chance to create their own instruments, amplify sounds, and learn about how our ears perceive sound, all while collaborating and having fun with their peers.
Registration for this program is now open on a first-come, first-served basis and will remain open until November 1st, unless all slots are filled earlier. To sign up and find more information, visit kenyon.edu/community-programming. Best of all, this program is completely free for students and includes lunch and snacks throughout the day.
The Fall Science Saturday program is designed to engage students in a series of hands-on experiments and activities related to the day’s theme. Participants will rotate through multiple sessions, each offering a different experiment or exploration, with snack breaks in between. After lunch, students will come together for a larger group demonstration session, an additional activity, or an opportunity to ask questions to a professional scientist in an „Ask-a-Scientist“ Q&A session.
This program not only aims to make science fun and accessible for students but also provides them with exposure to a diverse community of scientists at various stages of their careers, including college and post-graduate levels. Participants will have the chance to explore fields of science and experiments that are not typically taught at the middle or high school level, broadening their understanding and appreciation for the world of science.
For more information about the Fall Science Saturday program, you can contact Kenyon’s Office for Community Partnerships at communityinfo@kenyon.edu or 740-427-5419.
