Last chance to shop for Raya this weekend

As Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, the bustling bazaars and markets are filled with eager shoppers looking for the best deals on traditional attire, snacks, and decorations. This final weekend before the festive celebration is a crucial time for both buyers and sellers to make their last-minute purchases and promotions.

One trader, Junaidi Nurdin, is offering special promotions on his round-collared baju Melayu with a unique collar stitching called the “sembat tulang belut”. This style, popular in Johor, has gained attention as the King himself has been seen wearing it. Junaidi also caters to children with baju Melayu without the special stitch, ensuring that everyone can find something suitable for the occasion.

Despite the festive spirit in the air, some traders have noticed a decline in sales this year. Junaidi mentioned that his sales have dropped by 20%, while another booth selling traditional cookies, kuih, and kerepek also faced slower sales. However, there are still loyal customers who come in to make their usual bulk orders, keeping the traders hopeful for a successful weekend.

In an effort to boost sales, a boutique has decided to offer a special package of Raya outfits for the whole family at affordable prices. This initiative aims to attract more customers and provide them with convenient options for their festive attire needs. Similarly, the Federal Territories Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Association president, Datuk Mohamad Abdullah, is optimistic that people will come out in full force to complete their Raya shopping this weekend.

In Johor Baru, traders like Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman are hopeful to sell off their products, such as traditional Malay sandals known as chapal. With a majority of his customers being Singaporeans, he has already sold a significant portion of his stock. Meanwhile, baker Jumaylah Farkhan Kunumon is facing a happy problem of selling out her cookies and kuih before the end of Ramadan, indicating a high demand for these festive treats.

As the weekend approaches, trader Kamarul Fadhil anticipates a surge in sales for his dodol and serunding products. With years of experience in the business, he is prepared for the busy days ahead. Housewife Salmiah Razali also looks forward to visiting the bazaars during the last week of Ramadan, knowing that prices will be reduced as traders aim to clear their stock before the festive celebrations begin.

Overall, the final weekend before Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a time of excitement and anticipation for both shoppers and traders. With special promotions, traditional offerings, and a festive atmosphere, everyone is gearing up for a memorable and joyous celebration ahead.
