This phenomenon has been dubbed the „re-entry syndrome,“ and the Order of Psychologists of Tuscany is offering some helpful tips to combat it.

Maria Antonietta Gulino, the president of the Order, emphasizes the importance of a gradual return to routine. She suggests easing back into work by starting the day after returning from vacation to readjust to a different pace of life without rushing. Gulino also highlights the significance of leisure time, which is often associated solely with vacations. It’s crucial not to neglect our free time as we gradually resume our usual schedules. Engaging in outdoor activities, relaxation moments, reading, pursuing personal passions, and socializing with friends are all essential for a balanced lifestyle. Even taking a lunch break at work can provide an opportunity to spend time for oneself, go for a walk, and stimulate not only circulation but also the mind.

Furthermore, Gulino stresses the importance of adequate rest and proper nutrition. During the summer, our sleep patterns and eating habits may have shifted due to the freedom from work or school deadlines. As we return to cultivating regular sleep hours, quality rest is key to facing a day of commitments and work effectively. Limiting the use of television, tablets, and smartphones before bedtime can help the body and mind relax, while avoiding overeating and indulging in unhealthy foods, especially in the evening, can promote better sleep. Eating well and healthily contributes to a good night’s rest.

Gulino reminds us that the return to routine should not be viewed solely as a burden of deadlines, work, and responsibilities. It’s not the end of the world; instead, it’s an opportunity to make time for activities and hobbies that bring joy and fulfillment, similar to those enjoyed during vacation. By incorporating a bit of vacation into each day and not just waiting for the next summer break, we can create a more balanced and enjoyable daily life.

In conclusion, the transition back to work and daily life after a vacation can be challenging, but with a gradual approach, attention to leisure time, proper rest, and healthy eating habits, it is possible to overcome the re-entry syndrome and embrace a fulfilling and balanced lifestyle.
