Monterey Car Week is a car enthusiast’s dream come true. With street-parked supercars, history-making race cars, and exquisite classic cars on display, it’s a week filled with automotive eye candy. The event is so packed with overlapping activities that it’s impossible to see everything, but lucky for us, a group of editors from Car and Driver are on the scene to bring us all the updates.
On Wednesday, August 14, the excitement kicked off with Rich Ceppos getting ready to drive a variety of vintage Mercedes-Benz cars from Los Angeles to Monterey. The lineup included a 1980 450SL, a 1969 280SL, a 2007 R63, a 1997 Renntech E60 RS, a 2017 Maybach S650 cabriolet, and a 2008 CLK63 Black Series coupe. Rich was particularly thrilled to be behind the wheel of the 280SL, exclaiming, „Woo-hoo! Let’s go!“
Meanwhile, Caleb Miller made his way to California, where Cadillac shuttled him down to Carmel in the back seat of an electric Lyriq. Of course, no trip to California is complete without a pit stop at In-N-Out for some delicious burgers. Caleb also had a celebrity sighting on the road, spotting YouTuber Shmee150’s Ford GT cruising past him just outside of Carmel.
Drew Dorian, attending Car Week festivities for the first time, was equally excited. He picked up a stunning 2024 BMW M4 convertible in Velvet Orchid and decided to take the scenic route down Highway 1 to Monterey. Despite the chilly weather, Drew couldn’t resist putting the top down and enjoying the drive.
As the week unfolds, there are plenty of exciting events to look forward to.
