LYRIQ vehicles recalled by GM for antilock brake system defect

General Motors has issued a recall for more than 20,000 model year 2023-2024 Cadillac LYRIQ vehicles equipped with all-wheel drive due to concerns over defective antilock brake systems. The recall affects certain Cadillac LYRIQ vehicle owners nationwide and was initiated because the vehicles may contain a software defect in the electronic brake control module that could cause loss of braking ability under certain conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM stated that the antilock brake systems on the recalled Cadillac LYRIQ vehicles could become overly sensitive during certain braking events on dry surfaces while driving at speeds below 25 mph. This sensitivity could lead to a release of braking pressure, causing the service brakes to have reduced stopping performance or become inoperative, further increasing the risk of a crash.

To remedy the recall issue, GM plans to update the software in the affected Cadillac LYRIQ vehicles’ electronic brake control module. Affected vehicle owners who have accepted applicable terms and conditions will be able to receive the software update using wireless over-the-air technology, eliminating the need to bring their vehicle into a GM dealership for service. GM is set to begin notifying affected vehicle owners about the recall on September 23, 2024.

For individuals with questions or concerns about the recall, Cadillac customer service can be reached by phone at 1-800-458-8006, or they can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

In addition to the recall, four GM vehicle owners filed a class action lawsuit against the automaker in July over claims of using defective paint on its vehicles. The lawsuit alleges that the paint is prone to cracking, clouding, and delaminating, further adding to the concerns surrounding GM vehicles.

If you own a Cadillac LYRIQ vehicle and believe you may be affected by the recall, it is important to stay informed and take the necessary steps to ensure your safety and the safety of others on the road. Keep an eye out for notifications from GM regarding the recall and be proactive in seeking the software update for your vehicle.
