Maitland-Newcastle Catholic News Book Week Celebrations

Book Week is a beloved tradition in Australia that celebrates the magic of reading and the power of books. This year, schools across the country have embraced the theme of ‚Reading is Magic‘ with enthusiasm and creativity. From dressing up as favorite book characters to hosting special events and guest speakers, students and teachers alike have come together to celebrate the joy of reading.

At San Clemente High School in Mayfield, librarian Ms. Huber has gone above and beyond to keep reading at the forefront of students‘ minds. In the week leading up to Book Week, she transformed into various characters such as a pirate, a magician, a farmer, and even the Japanese comic character, Totoro. Her dedication to promoting reading and creating a magical atmosphere for students is truly inspiring.

St. Joseph’s Primary School in Wingham also embraced the spirit of Book Week by ditching their school uniforms for a day to celebrate the importance of reading. The students were visited by 7 News, highlighting their commitment to fostering a love of books and storytelling.

Meanwhile, at St. Joseph’s Catholic College in Aberdeen, Mrs. Carr made a special visit to Aberdeen Preschool to enchant young children with a captivating storytime session. By bringing various characters to life, she sparked the imaginations of the preschoolers and instilled in them a love for storytelling and creativity.

St. James‘ Primary School in Muswellbrook brought a touch of enchantment to their Book Week celebrations by encouraging students and teachers to dress up as their favorite magical or book characters. The day was filled with wonder as everyone embraced the spirit of fantasy and imagination, showcasing the transformative power of books.

St. Paul’s Primary School in Gateshead kicked off their Book Week festivities with a magical parade where students dressed as their favorite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life. The school also had the pleasure of hosting acclaimed children’s author, Jess Black, whose engaging presentation left students inspired and eager to explore the world of reading further.

At St. Pius X Primary School in Windale, students were treated to a visit from a real-life magician as part of their Book Week celebrations. The magician’s awe-inspiring tricks, coupled with the message that he learned his magical skills through reading books, served as a powerful reminder of the magic of reading.

In conclusion, Book Week is a time for schools to come together and celebrate the joy and wonder of reading. Through creative activities, special events, and guest speakers, students are encouraged to explore the world of books and expand their imaginations. As Dr. Seuss famously said, „The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.“ This sentiment rings true in the hearts of students and educators alike as they embrace the magic of reading during Book Week.
