The iconic building known as Máj, located in Prague, has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years. Originally facing the threat of demolition by the British company Tesco, the building was ultimately granted historical protection. Seven years ago, the property was acquired by the company Amadeus Real Estate, led by Martin and Václav Klán Jr. Over the past two years, the Klán brothers have been diligently renovating the building, and it is set to reopen to the public in just a few days. However, this time, Máj will not only house shops but also offer a variety of entertainment options that are truly unique.
Amadeus Real Estate initially planned to convert Máj into office spaces. However, after much consideration, the Klán brothers decided to take a different direction and transform the building into a new entertainment center in Prague. Martin Klán explains, „It would have been a shame to have only the same people in Máj every day. We are opening the property to everyone. It would have been a shame if only offices were located in Máj.“
The newly renovated Máj, set to open on June 24th, will feature six different concepts spread across nine floors. From small shops to the well-known Tesco, the building will also house the third Czech Popeyes restaurant and soon the very first Czech branch of Five Guys. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a dance floor, a bar, a lookout point, and two floors dedicated to games. The Klán brothers describe the various changes that Máj has undergone in a recent interview with CzechCrunch.
When asked about the inspiration behind the new concept, Václav Klán Jr. mentions that while there are elements reminiscent of American style, they did not specifically visit the US for inspiration. Instead, they drew from their own ideas and experiences from traveling across Europe and parts of Asia. The diverse offerings at Máj include a children’s world, a Marvel museum, an interactive history museum, a rooftop bar, and a separate lookout point.
