Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Adult Career Center has recently been awarded the Aspire Adult Workforce Education Readiness Grant, allowing them to provide free services to adults in Mahoning and Columbiana County. This grant will enable individuals to acquire the necessary skills to succeed in post-secondary education, training, and employment. The MCCTC Adult Career Center, located on Palmyra Road in Canfield, will be hosting an Aspire Kick-Off Open House Event on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., which is open to the public.
Ohio’s Aspire programs offer a range of services to adult learners, including basic math, reading, and writing instruction, high school equivalency preparation, college or technical school preparation, test preparation, English language acquisition, bridge programs, corrections education, professional development courses for local employers, and workforce literacy and career exploration. These services are provided at flexible locations and times to accommodate the diverse needs of adult learners.
Classes are offered both virtually and in traditional face-to-face classrooms at various locations such as the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, Compass Family and Community Services, Excellence Training Center at YSU, Salem First Christian Church, OCCHA – Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana Inc., and online. The courses are scheduled to begin on August 12 and will run through the end of the year, with classes available Monday through Friday at different times and locations in local communities.
MCCTC has a history of collaboration with local Aspire programs, providing classroom space, instructional materials, and shared graduation ceremonies. As a new fiscal agent, MCCTC will continue to offer these services and introduce new and innovative programming to help individuals achieve high school equivalence and secure gainful employment.
