The Tábor music scene may seem quiet at first glance, especially after losing the renowned club Orion as a local music hub. However, the space Cesta has been hosting a variety of events, bringing some much-needed life back into the scene. Recently, the bands DIIST and Weather caught the attention of the local music enthusiasts, along with the noise punk band Lament and the project Szmej.
Behind all these names are two restless spirits, Johnny and Míra, who are also the masterminds behind the label Learn or Go Society. „It’s just dirty punk, disgusting and pig-like,“ describes Míra, the sound that both he and Johnny seek. Inviting them into the studio meant immersing oneself in a stream of vibrant creative energy, which is always a good thing.
Johnny and Míra, post-punkers and lovers of primitivism, briefly introduce themselves as individuals who inevitably had to meet in the sparse local scene. Despite their sometimes different approaches to music and tastes, they were united by a shared desire to try anything and see it through to the end, rather than letting ideas die in a phone. „I just wanted to show Míra his potential,“ explains Johnny, why he decided to constantly improve his recording equipment and hard-earned know-how.
„If one band had to do everything that comes to mind, we would probably drown in it, and it wouldn’t work at all,“ adds Míra, who is proof that a surprisingly functional model is also a partnership in a band. His kitchen project Plop goes against the news that people are getting on each other’s nerves in lockdown and shared households with its inner harmony. You haven’t heard such an optimistic DIY gospel in a long time. Amen! And by stubbornly distorting the label’s name and repeating the mantra „learn AND go,“ Miloš actually reveals the essence and creed of the Tábor collective: learn and move on!
What is happening in the Tábor music scene, which in past decades churned out one original band after another? Do Johnny and Míra from the Learn or Go Society label share utopian dreams? Who enjoys starting projects and who is happy to kill them? Dive into the full Špína recording to find out.
In conclusion, the Tábor music scene is experiencing a revival thanks to the efforts of individuals like Johnny and Míra, who are dedicated to pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds. With their label Learn or Go Society, they are not only creating music but also fostering a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for creativity and experimentation. As the scene continues to evolve, it is clear that Tábor is once again becoming a vibrant hub for music and art.
