On August 6th, 2024, the Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Hayford Siaw, along with several management members, commended students from MountCrest Law School for their innovative ideas during a courtesy visit to the Authority. The students, led by Gideon Kwasi Annor, proposed a collaboration between MountCrest and the Authority to improve access to legal education resources in Ghana.
Gideon Kwasi Annor, a level 300 student at MountCrest Law School and Business Development Manager of NIS NIS Venture Limited, spearheaded the visit as part of his campaign promise to enhance the school’s library facilities and support financially disadvantaged students. Annor highlighted the challenges faced by students who struggle to afford expensive law books despite receiving scholarships for tuition. He proposed incorporating legal education materials into the Authority’s e-book offerings to make them more accessible and affordable for law students nationwide.
Mrs. Yaa Agyemang Opare Adu, the Head of Administration at the Ghana Library Authority, praised the students for their forward-thinking approach and emphasized the Authority’s commitment to providing resources for the intellectual development of Ghanaian youth. She acknowledged the potential impact of the collaboration on the future of legal education in the country and expressed confidence in the positive change it could bring.
Other management members also commended the students for their innovative ideas and suggested formalizing the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to benefit both institutions. They reiterated their dedication to serving the Ghanaian people and enhancing educational resources in the country.
The Executive Director, Mr. Hayford Siaw, expressed his gratitude to Gideon Annor and his team for their contributions to the discussion. The team, which included Annor’s running mate, PR specialist Rosaline Leslie Defia, campaign manager Zulaiha Ibrahim, and members Elvis Allan Bentil and Bernice Sangmortey, reinforced the arguments made by Annor and strengthened the overall proposition.
This collaborative initiative between MountCrest Law School and the Ghana Library Authority holds the promise of improving access to essential legal resources and setting a precedent for future partnerships aimed at enhancing legal education in Ghana. By working together, these institutions can make a significant impact on the educational landscape of the country and empower students to succeed in their legal studies.
