National Grid backs manufacturing education | News, Sports, Jobs

National Grid, a leading energy company, continues to show its commitment to investing in the education and development of Buffalo’s future workforce by providing funding for the Manufacturing Mayhem Day Camp. This week-long camp is part of the Dream It Do It initiative, which aims to promote careers in manufacturing and STEM fields across Western New York. National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa recently presented a $50,000 check to Todd Tranum, Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier, in support of this important program.

The Manufacturing Mayhem Technology Camp is a hands-on experience that immerses students in the manufacturing process. Held at Jamestown Community College’s Manufacturing Technology Institute, the camp teaches students valuable skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. Throughout the week, students have the opportunity to interact with representatives from local manufacturing companies who share insights into various career opportunities within the industry. The camp culminates in a competition where students showcase projects they have created during the week.

National Grid’s partnership with Dream It Do It Western New York has been instrumental in providing applied learning opportunities for middle and high school students in Chautauqua County. With National Grid’s support, the program is expanding into Erie and Niagara Counties, further reaching and engaging students in manufacturing education. Todd Tranum, President of Dream It Do It Western New York, emphasized the importance of this funding in continuing to build connections between students and manufacturing career pathways.

Students who participate in the Manufacturing Mayhem camp are also enrolled in the Dream It Do It Advanced Manufacturing Program (DIDIAMP). This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, reward them for their academic achievements, and connect them directly with local manufacturers. Through DIDIAMP, students have the opportunity to earn certifications and pursue careers in the manufacturing industry.

To learn more about Dream It Do It Western New York and enroll in the Advanced Manufacturing Program, interested individuals can visit the organization’s website at didiwny.com.
