New Smart App Makes Donating Used Clothes Easier in the UAE

In a bid to enhance the donation of second-hand clothes and promote sustainable practices, the Beit Al Khair Society has launched a groundbreaking smart application called ‚Malabes‘ or ‚Clothes‘ app. This innovative project aligns with the 50-year charter initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which emphasizes the importance of humanitarian efforts alongside economic development in Dubai.

The Malabes app aims to streamline the process of donating old clothes by providing a convenient platform for individuals to contribute to charitable causes. Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, director-general of Beit Al Khair Society, highlighted the significance of this initiative in supporting the community and fulfilling the vision set forth by Sheikh Mohammed. By leveraging technology to facilitate the collection of second-hand clothes, the app is expected to significantly increase the volume of donated items, thereby generating more funds for various charity programs.

Since its inception in 2012, the project has placed collection containers across the country to gather used clothes, which are then sold to recycling companies. The proceeds from these sales are channeled back into charitable initiatives that benefit vulnerable populations. Over the years, the revenues generated from the sale of old clothes have exceeded Dh7 million, enabling Beit Al Khair Society to undertake a wide range of projects aimed at improving the lives of those in need.

Abdullah Al Ustaz, assistant director-general of Beit Al Khair, emphasized the convenience and efficiency that the Malabes app brings to the donation process. Through a network of agents from a specialized recycling company, the Society will swiftly collect donated clothes, ensuring a seamless experience for donors. This collaborative effort between technology and philanthropy underscores the commitment of Beit Al Khair Society to making a positive impact on society and promoting sustainable practices.

By harnessing the power of digital innovation, the Malabes app represents a significant step forward in promoting charitable giving and environmental sustainability. With the ease and accessibility it offers to individuals looking to donate old clothes, this app is poised to revolutionize the way donations are made and contribute to the growth of humanitarian works in Dubai. As the app gains traction and more people participate in this initiative, the impact on the community is expected to be profound, fostering a culture of giving and social responsibility among residents of Dubai.
