Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (SM SMJA) welcomed 176 Year 7 students yesterday, marking the beginning of a new academic year filled with opportunities for growth and learning. The school, known as the oldest education institution in the country, prides itself on providing a nurturing and supportive environment for its students.
To ensure a smooth transition for the new intake of students, parents were invited to attend briefings on the school’s operations, rules, and welfare. These sessions also covered important topics such as academic expectations, school affairs, and the issue of cyberbullying. SM SMJA principal, Hajah Norhashimah binti Haji Burut, emphasized the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents in fostering a positive and successful learning experience for students.
In her welcoming remarks, Hajah Norhashimah highlighted the school’s commitment to innovation and adaptability. She mentioned that SM SMJA has implemented strategies to enhance students‘ communication skills, promote collaboration, and encourage critical thinking. The school aims to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-changing world.
One of the key initiatives mentioned by the principal was the use of technology to facilitate communication between the school and parents. In addition to traditional methods like WhatsApp and Telegram, SM SMJA will also utilize Microsoft Teams as a school-home link. This platform will allow parents to stay informed about their children’s progress in school and communicate directly with teachers.
As part of the Ministry of Education’s Digital Classroom project, SM SMJA is at the forefront of integrating technology into the learning environment. Recognizing the prevalence of technology and the internet among secondary school students, the school is committed to leveraging these tools to enhance the educational experience.
On the first day of school, students were introduced to their classrooms, received their textbooks, attended informative briefings, and learned the official school song. The presence of parents during this important milestone reflects the strong partnership between the school and families in supporting students‘ academic journey.
Overall, the start of the new academic year at SM SMJA signals a promising and exciting time for both students and staff. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and communication, the school is poised to empower students to reach their full potential and excel in their academic pursuits.
