In 2020, as the world came to a standstill, Matthew Silva and Corey Jenkins made the decision to leave the hectic pace of New York City behind and move closer to their family in Columbus. The allure of grass and trees was a welcome change from the concrete jungle they had grown accustomed to. However, after four years in Columbus, the duo found themselves missing the vibrant restaurant and bar scene of NYC. With over 50 years of combined hospitality experience in the cultural epicenter of the world, they longed for the dynamic energy they once thrived in.
Despite their nostalgia for New York City, Silva and Jenkins recognized the potential of Columbus as a city with its own unique charm and opportunities. Drawing from their backgrounds in theatre, voice, interior design, and hospitality, they set out to introduce a fresh concept to the local scene. The result is The Rivington, a new establishment set to debut in February at the former Bar 23 space on N. High St.
The Rivington, named after a beloved street in NYC, aims to differentiate itself by focusing on vocal performances rather than just instrumental music. While live music venues are not uncommon in Columbus, The Rivington seeks to create a seductive and intimate ambiance reminiscent of a classic NYC cocktail and music lounge. The space will feature monochrome red decor, plush velvet furniture, classic and craft cocktails, small plates, and carefully selected glassware.
Silva and Jenkins, who also own the local interior decorating company Mood and Vibe, are dedicated to infusing the space with a distinct mood and vibe that they describe as „sexy.“ Every detail, from the food and drinks to the atmosphere, has been meticulously planned to create a top-notch experience for guests. The owners emphasize their love for hospitality and their desire to bring people together through their establishment.
In addition to the ambiance and offerings, The Rivington will showcase a diverse range of musical genres, including jazz, funk, and hip-hop, with a focus on bands with standout lead vocalists. While they have lined up bands from NYC, they are eager to highlight local talent and encourage Columbus-based bands with exceptional vocalists to reach out for performance opportunities.
Silva and Jenkins view The Rivington as a love letter to both NYC and Columbus, combining their experiences and passions to create a unique and exciting space for the community. With a commitment to excellence and a dedication to fostering a welcoming and engaging atmosphere, The Rivington is poised to make a significant impact on the Columbus hospitality scene.
