Opel’s latest release, the new Movano, is setting new standards for light commercial vehicles in the fleet services sector. With a range of configuration options, a spacious cargo capacity of up to 17 m3, and a payload capacity of up to 1770 kg, the Movano also boasts cutting-edge assistance systems that enable Level 2 automated driving for the first time. However, one of the most notable technical highlights of the latest generation Opel Movano is the newly developed automatic transmission for diesel engine variants, which promises high performance and efficiency across the board, whether in the locally emission-free Movano Electric or the economical diesel version.
The perfect combination: powerful turbo-diesels and a new eight-speed automatic transmission
The eight-speed automatic transmission is available in the new Movano paired with a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel engine producing either 103 kW (140 hp) or 132 kW (180 hp). Thanks to this new automatic transmission, the Movano can achieve remarkably efficient fuel consumption of just 8.6 liters per 100 kilometers.
There are several reasons behind the high performance and resulting significant fuel savings and CO2 emissions reductions. The new eight-speed automatic transmission has been specifically designed for high torque applications, up to 450 Newton meters in the 132 kW (180 hp) engine. With hydraulic control, gear shift times are shorter, enhancing both energy efficiency and driving comfort. Additionally, the Movano’s body has been optimized for aerodynamics, further contributing to its fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions leadership in its segment, even with diesel engines.
A wide range of powertrains: turbo-diesel, electric drive, and soon hydrogen fuel cells
Opel offers business customers a powertrain tailored to every user profile – from the efficient turbo-diesel engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission (available in various vehicle configurations and body versions) to the powerful electric motor in the Movano Electric version. The latest generation electrically powered commercial vehicle features a 200 kW (272 hp) electric motor with 410 Nm of torque. The new 110 kWh battery allows the Movano Electric to cover distances of up to 424 km according to WLTP procedures without the need for recharging, making it an efficient and reliable partner even on longer journeys. It is also the first Opel model to offer the option of fast charging with up to 150 kW of power. At a fast charging station, the Opel Movano Electric battery can be charged to 80% capacity in just 55 minutes.
The largest light commercial vehicle from Opel will soon be available as the Movano HYDROGEN, designed for those who want to cover long distances without local emissions and need quick refueling. This innovative vehicle with hydrogen fuel cells will provide a range of around 500 km (WLTP) and can be refueled with hydrogen in about five minutes.

In conclusion, the new Opel Movano with its high-performance turbo-diesels, advanced automatic transmission, and a range of powertrain options represents a significant step forward in the light commercial vehicle segment. With its focus on efficiency, emissions reduction, and versatility, the Movano is a compelling choice for fleet operators looking for a reliable and cost-effective solution for their business needs.
