Margaret „Peggy“ Herrington, a beloved member of the Beech Grove, Indiana community, passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 13, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa, Peggy was the daughter of William and Viola Monaghan (Ackerson). Throughout her life, Peggy was known for her quiet and unassuming nature, always putting others before herself and living with a servant’s heart.
One of Peggy’s greatest joys in life was her enduring marriage of 47 years to her husband, Donald „Mark“ Herrington. Their love and commitment to each other served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Peggy’s family was her pride and joy, and she is survived by her husband, Mark Herrington, her sons, Jarrod and Shaun Herrington, her daughter, Joanna Herrington, and her grandchildren, Logan, Noah, and Eliza Herrington. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill (Margie) Monaghan and Jim (Linda) Monaghan, as well as her sister, Thelma (Frank) Morris. Peggy’s family meant everything to her, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her family, Peggy had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought her joy and fulfillment. She had a passion for reading, particularly sci-fi novels, and enjoyed exploring lighthouses and watching Star Trek. Peggy also had a love for horses, spent time mastering the art of cake decorating, and engaged in cross-stitch activities. Her diverse interests showcased her creative and adventurous spirit, and she approached each new hobby with enthusiasm and dedication.
Peggy was a dedicated member of the Westchester Evangelical Free Church in Des Moines, Iowa, where she actively participated in the ESL program and choir. She was a shining example of faith and service, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Peggy also made significant contributions towards advancing Parkinson’s research through medical studies, demonstrating her commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
A service to honor Margaret’s life will be held at Thompson Road Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, August 10, 2024. The viewing will take place from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Peggy’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched with her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and acts of kindness. May she rest in peace, knowing that she made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
