The 13th annual car show organized by the Poor Boy Car Club is set to take place at Chapman Park on Saturday, Aug. 17. This event will be a part of the fourth annual SoCo Suds and Sounds in Monte Vista, promising a day filled with exciting activities for car enthusiasts and community members alike. The event will feature a demonstration from Ms. KAIS Academy of Performing Arts, a live deejay, and live music from Absolution starting at 4 p.m. Absolution will entertain the crowd until the show concludes at 6 p.m.
Adam Lock, President of the OptiMystics Citizen Action Network, expressed his excitement about hosting the SoCo Suds and Sounds event in collaboration with the Poor Boy Car Club’s car show. This year, Valley Veterans Recreation has also joined as co-hosts, adding to the event’s appeal. The OptiMystics have announced that this will be their final year organizing the event, passing the reins exclusively to Valley Veterans Recreation to continue the tradition in the future.
The Monte Vista Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a Cornhole Tournament alongside the car show, providing additional entertainment for attendees. Various vendors and food trucks will be present at the event, offering a diverse selection of goods and treats for visitors to enjoy.
Registration for the car show will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the show and shine scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Awards will be presented at 4 p.m. Early registration is available for $25, while the gate entry fee is $30. Additional car entries are $5, motorcycles are $15, and bicycles are $10.
Richard Garcia, President of the Poor Boy Car Club, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, highlighting the club’s commitment to hosting car shows and participating in various automotive events. The club not only showcases their impressive cars but also raises funds to support individuals battling illness. Garcia shared the club’s heartfelt motivation to give back to the community, stemming from personal experiences with his nephew’s cancer diagnosis.
This year, Garcia aims to surpass previous records and attract over 100 entries for the car show. Collaborating with DJ Salazar of Valley Veterans Recreation, the event organizers are determined to make this year’s show the best one yet. DJ Salazar emphasized the importance of bringing together car enthusiasts from all over to celebrate the automotive culture and create a memorable experience for all participants.
