Over 2,500 UOB Thailand employees come together for the 2023 Global Heartbeat Run/Walk, raising 4 million baht for children’s education.

The UOB Global Heartbeat Run/Walk event in Thailand brought together more than 2,500 colleagues, families, customers, and business partners to raise funds for the UOB My Digital Space programme. This annual flagship volunteering and fundraising programme is held by UOB globally across 18 markets, with the goal of enhancing the quality of education for disadvantaged students in remote areas. The funds raised in Thailand, totaling 4 million baht, will support the Thailand Collaboration for Education (TCFE) to provide youths with digital tools and comprehensive online education programmes.

Mr. Tan Choon Hin, President and Chief Executive Officer of UOB Thailand, emphasized the importance of employee volunteerism in the UOB Heartbeat corporate social responsibility agenda. The UOB Global Heartbeat Run/Walk event serves as a platform for colleagues, customers, and partners to come together and contribute to the social progress of the communities they serve. The funds raised will enable students in remote areas to access high-quality education, opening up opportunities for them to thrive.

The 2023 UOB Global Heartbeat Run/Walk event in Thailand took place at the Suphachalasai National Stadium on 6 August, coinciding with the event in Vietnam. Other markets such as China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Singapore also held physical events, with Malaysia scheduled to hold theirs later in the month. Participants enjoyed performances by the Surasakmontree School’s Brass Band and engaging activities for both children and adults.

In an effort to make the event more environmentally friendly, UOB Thailand has implemented various green initiatives for the UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk. The use of surplus fabric from the fashion industry to produce running shirts has significantly reduced the event’s carbon footprint. Other initiatives include introducing a medal that doubles as a coin pouch, setting up recycling bins for plastic water bottles, and donating surplus food to nearby communities. These initiatives align with UOB’s commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

The UOB Global Heartbeat Run/Walk is a key component of the UOB Heartbeat Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which aims to create positive change for more compassionate and inclusive societies. Through corporate philanthropy, partnerships with stakeholders, and active employee involvement, UOB strives to make a meaningful impact on communities. By uniting colleagues, customers, and business partners, UOB continues to uphold its core values of Honour, Enterprise, Unity, and Commitment in driving social progress and community development.
