Part I – One working day with Col. PhDr. Pavel Hegr
Col. PhDr. Pavel Hegr was appointed as the Head of the Pedagogy Department just two weeks ago, but he is already well-versed in all the responsibilities that come with the position. It is Wednesday, the 14th of October, and Pavel arrives at the Academy before 6:00 AM, in a rush. As a member of the examination committee, he has a busy day ahead of him.
The day starts with a quick check of the intranet information system and the tasks assigned to the teachers. Pavel is relieved to see that all tasks are being completed responsibly. He then moves on to checking his emails and responding to the most urgent ones. One of the tasks on his list is to request the replenishment of shooting equipment for the teachers.
At 7:00 AM, Pavel is in a classroom where online examinations for new specialists in psychology, special education, and social work are taking place. He is joined by another teacher, Capt. Lukáš Kozaczka, and they discuss recent decisions regarding the online education system. Meanwhile, students from Valdice prison start their exams, and Pavel briefs them on the examination process.
As the students prepare for their exams, Pavel continues his discussion with the teachers about the implementation of the new online education system. Due to the current pandemic restrictions, organizing a meeting with all teachers seems challenging. However, Pavel is determined to find a solution.
The examination process continues smoothly, with students being examined from different prisons. At 10:00 AM, a new teacher, Capt. Martin Antušák, joins the committee to gain experience in the examination process. The day progresses with more students being examined, and by 11:30 AM, the examination day comes to an end.
After a half-hour lunch break, Pavel deals with the organization of shooting training in prisons during the pandemic. He then has a meeting with the teachers responsible for shooting training. Back in his office, Pavel focuses on filling out forms for shooting materials and means of restraint for the upcoming year.
At 1:15 PM, Pavel meets with his deputy and the Head of the IT Department to discuss GDPR issues related to student data and the implementation of live online lessons. The meeting covers various aspects, including the number of students in groups, teachers‘ new responsibilities, and technical requirements for online teaching. The meeting concludes with a plan for transforming service exams into an online format.
At 2:30 PM, Pavel leaves the Academy, wrapping up a busy and productive day. Despite the challenges and responsibilities, Pavel remains dedicated to his role as the Head of the Pedagogy Department at the Academy.
Col. PhDr. Pavel Hegr’s journey at the Academy, from a teacher to the Head of the Pedagogy Department, showcases his commitment to education and professional growth. His dedication to his work and his family life in a nearby village highlight his balanced approach to life and work.
