On Monday, June 13, 2022, the Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah (PBSM) in collaboration with the Sarikei Life Care Society organized the World Blood Donation Program at the Sarikei District Council Hall on Sunday.
The chairman of PBSM, who is also the Meradong State Assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, explained that the program was a positive effort to raise awareness among the public and instill a sense of compassion for others through blood donation.
He emphasized that such programs are a social responsibility of all parties involved to help those in need. Blood donation is a commendable act that benefits both the donor and those in need of the donation.
„Efforts to promote blood donation campaigns should be intensified at all times, as hospitals and the national blood bank often face shortages of blood supply,“ he said during the program’s inauguration.
He added that organizing blood donation programs also aligns with the government’s efforts to improve the quality of life for the people. All the blood collected during this program will be donated to the Blood Bank Unit of Sarikei Hospital.
In the afternoon, Datuk Ding had the opportunity to officiate the Sarawak Central Zone Football League match between STR N.46 Meradong and Forty Three Daro FC at the Bintangor Sports Complex.
A total of 14 teams participated in the Central Zone Sarawak Football League in 2022, marking the first time the league had matches played on a home-and-away basis. The teams consisted of the Youth Wing of the United Bumiputera Party (PBB) in each Central Zone area.
Overall, the day was filled with meaningful activities that aimed to promote community well-being and sportsmanship. The combination of the blood donation program and the football league exemplified the spirit of giving back to the community and fostering healthy competition among participants. Such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for the people of Sarikei and beyond.
