The Riga Interest Education Methodological Materials Competition is an event aimed at promoting the best practices of interest education teachers, fostering the development of modern, diverse, and innovative teaching methods in interest education. This year, the competition received 33 submissions from 41 authors representing 11 educational institutions. The diversity of entries showcases the commitment and creativity of educators in enhancing interest-based learning experiences.
The 2024 Riga Interest Education Methodological Materials Competition will feature presentations of the submitted works on October 23 and 24 at the Science and Innovation Center of Riga Technical University (RTU) on 6a Kipsala Street. This event serves as a platform for educators to share their innovative teaching materials and methods, contributing to the continuous improvement of interest education practices.
Participants in the competition were encouraged to incorporate themes such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in interest education, integrating the new „School2030“ curriculum into interest-based learning, and exploring freely chosen topics. This approach ensures a broad spectrum of ideas and approaches to enrich the educational experience for students.
This year’s competition includes educators specializing in STEM, visual and visual plastic arts, contemporary dance, folk dance, sports and physical activities, music, social and civic education from various Riga Children and Youth Centers and schools. The diverse backgrounds and expertise of the participants promise a rich exchange of ideas and methodologies that can benefit the entire educational community.
The evaluation of the submitted works will be completed by November 15, with the announcement of winners and special prize recipients taking place on December 4 at the award ceremony at the Riga Culture and Folk Art Center „Maza Gilde“ on 5 Amatu Street. The recognition of outstanding contributions to interest education will inspire and motivate educators to continue their innovative work in shaping the future of learning.
All educators, methodologists, administrators, students, parents, and other interested individuals are invited to attend the presentations of the competition entries. The event is organized by the Riga City Council’s Education, Culture, and Sports Department in collaboration with the Children and Youth Center „Laimite“ Riga Interest Education Methodological Center.
In conclusion, the Riga Interest Education Methodological Materials Competition serves as a platform for educators to showcase their innovative teaching materials and methods, contributing to the advancement of interest-based learning practices. The event not only recognizes excellence in education but also fosters a collaborative spirit among educators to create a more engaging and effective learning environment for students.
