A heartwarming story emerged from a harrowing incident in Texas, where a woman’s life was saved thanks to the quick thinking of her children and the heroic actions of Good Samaritans and the West Orange police. Jonquetta Winbush, a Texas woman, found herself in a life-threatening situation after suffering a medical incident while driving last month. As a result, she drove her car into a pond, leaving only the back bumper visible.
The dramatic rescue unfolded in the southeast Texas city of West Orange when Epifanio Munguia noticed the submerged vehicle and sprang into action to assist a police officer who was already running towards the water. Munguia recounted his thoughts at the moment, saying, „I saw a vehicle in the water, and I thought, I didn’t really think it happened at that moment. I thought a wrecker was going to come and get the car out. And then I saw an officer running to the water, and I realized it had just happened.“
Filled with determination and faith, Munguia said a quick prayer for strength and wisdom before diving into the water to help. He described the urgency of the situation, „I started trying to crack that window in the back.“ Meanwhile, West Orange police revealed that Winbush had suffered a seizure while driving, causing her to lose consciousness with her foot still on the gas pedal. Her two children, Dwight Winbush, 12, and his 16-year-old sister, were also in the car during the terrifying ordeal.
Dwight Winbush acted swiftly, alerting patrolman Charles Cobb to his mother’s dire situation. „She’s having a seizure! She’s sunk! She’s in the water, help her!“ Dwight urgently pleaded with Cobb, who wasted no time in rushing to the sinking car. Munguia and another Good Samaritan, Corey Bull, followed suit, assisting in the rescue effort to pull Jonquetta out of the submerged vehicle.
The rescue operation was fraught with tension as Munguia struggled to unbuckle Jonquetta’s seatbelt in the sinking car. Despite the challenges, the collective efforts of Munguia, Bull, and the police officer paid off when they successfully extracted Jonquetta from the vehicle. Munguia described the moment of relief when he heard one of the men shout, „We’ve got her!“ as a feeling akin to winning the lottery.
Officer Cobb immediately administered CPR to Jonquetta, and emergency services arrived promptly to stabilize her condition. Jonquetta was subsequently transferred to the ICU, where she remains in intensive care. Grateful for the heroic actions of all involved, Jonquetta’s sister, Bevnisha Holman, expressed her profound gratitude for the bravery displayed by her nephew and the quick response of the Good Samaritans and law enforcement.
