Saeima atbalsta Veselības ministrijas ierosinātos grozījumus likumā, kas nosaka pacienta tiesības pieaicināt personu, kas nodrošina tulkošanu valsts valodā.

Saeima has recently supported amendments proposed by the Ministry of Health that would allow patients to invite a person to provide translation services in the state language. This change aims to improve communication between healthcare providers and patients who may not be fluent in Latvian, ensuring that everyone can fully understand and participate in their healthcare decisions.

One of the key aspects of these amendments is the recognition of the importance of effective communication in healthcare settings. Language barriers can often lead to misunderstandings, misdiagnoses, and inadequate treatment, ultimately impacting the quality of care that patients receive. By allowing patients to bring in a trusted individual to assist with translation, these amendments seek to address this issue and promote better healthcare outcomes for all.

Furthermore, these amendments also emphasize the importance of respecting patients‘ rights and autonomy. Being able to communicate effectively with healthcare providers is essential for patients to make informed decisions about their health and treatment options. By empowering patients to bring in a translator of their choice, these amendments uphold the principle of patient-centered care and ensure that individuals are able to actively participate in their own healthcare journey.

In addition to improving communication and respecting patients‘ rights, these amendments also highlight the government’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity in healthcare. Latvia is home to a diverse population with various linguistic backgrounds, and it is crucial that healthcare services are accessible to all individuals, regardless of their language proficiency. By allowing patients to bring in a translator, these amendments help to create a more inclusive healthcare system that caters to the needs of all patients.

Overall, the support for these amendments by Saeima represents a positive step towards enhancing the quality of healthcare services in Latvia. By recognizing the importance of effective communication, respecting patients‘ rights, and promoting inclusivity, these amendments aim to create a more patient-centered and inclusive healthcare system that prioritizes the well-being and needs of all individuals. As these changes are implemented, it is hoped that patients will experience improved communication, better healthcare outcomes, and a greater sense of empowerment in their healthcare decisions.
