Schuyler County Youth Bureau Offers Three Grants to Support Youth Development Programs
The Schuyler County Youth Bureau is currently accepting applications for three separate grants aimed at providing support to youth development programs in the area. These grants, funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, are designed to help organizations create and sustain programs that benefit the youth in Schuyler County. The deadline for applications for the new fiscal cycle is August 30th, 2024.
The first grant available is the Youth Development Funding, which is intended for non-profit programs that focus on promoting the development of multifaceted quality programs for youth. These programs should provide opportunities for young people to gain important life skills and core competencies, create a nurturing environment for growth and learning, and allow youth to have meaningful roles in their communities. Examples of eligible program types include after-school tutoring, cultural enrichment programs, work readiness initiatives, youth advocacy programs, leadership development programs, and mentoring programs.
The second grant, the Youth Sports & Education Opportunity Funding, is specifically targeted at programs that offer sports activities to youth between the ages of 6 and 17 in under-resourced communities. The definition of sports is broad and includes organized activities involving movement, such as yoga, hiking, dance, and other physical fitness activities. Funding from this grant can be used for coaches, instructors, mentors, equipment, educational programming costs, facility expenses, and a small portion for administrative overhead.
The third grant, the Youth TEAM Sports Grant, is also for community-based organizations that aim to use sports as a tool for positive youth development and family engagement. This grant supports programs that provide opportunities for youth to learn a sport, take on leadership roles, and foster community cohesion. Funding can be used for coaches, referees, equipment, facility costs, and the purchase of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to meet safety requirements. A portion of the funds can also be allocated for administrative expenses.
Over the years, the Schuyler County Youth Bureau has sponsored various programs, including the Schuyler County Family Play and Resource Center, Youth Court, Youth Baseball & Softball, Youth Football, Village of Odessa Summer Rec, Village of Watkins Glen Summer Rec, and Youth Soccer Club.
