Seeking LGBTQIA+ performers for cabaret show

LOOK Again at Gray’s School of Art and Aberdeen Performing Arts are teaming up once again to bring back the popular queer cabaret event, ‘Glory’, to Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree this November. This exciting event aims to showcase the talents of LGBTQIA+ artists and provide a platform for them to express themselves through various art forms. Organisers are now calling for LGBTQIA+ artists to come forward and participate in the upcoming cabaret, which will take place on 9 November.

The cabaret is part of a unique initiative to highlight the voices of queer artists in the cultural scene of the city. Following the success of the first Glory event in June, this upcoming cabaret promises to be even more spectacular. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from objects in the RGU Art & Heritage Collection, which includes artworks by RGU alumni and items that reflect the history of RGU’s teaching and study.

Event co-organiser, Bart Grabski, expressed his excitement for the upcoming cabaret, stating, “We are thrilled to continue the momentum from the success of ‘Glory’ in June and invite artists to showcase their talents in November. The objects from the RGU Art & Heritage Collections serve as a unique source of inspiration, and we are eager to see how artists will interpret and give new meanings to these objects through their performances.”

Glory co-producer Hanna Louise added, “Events like Glory bring a sense of queer joy to Aberdeen, showcasing local cabaret stars and performers from across the region. This partnership with Look Again at Gray’s School of Art is a fantastic opportunity to support and promote LGBTQIA+ creatives in the community.”

Director of Look Again at Gray’s School of Art, Sally Reaper, emphasized the importance of celebrating the diverse creative communities in the North East through events like Glory. She highlighted the success of the previous cabaret and expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event in November.

Susan Whyte, Head of Creative Engagement at Aberdeen Performing Arts, described Glory as a fun and engaging evening that celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture. She expressed her delight in partnering with Look Again to bring this important event to the community.

The project is funded by Aberdeen Performing Arts and RGU Art & Heritage Collections, with support from Look Again at Gray’s School of Art. LGBTQIA+ creative practitioners are encouraged to submit their applications by 9 September for a chance to perform at the cabaret. More information about the application process can be found on the Look Again Aberdeen website.

In conclusion, Glory promises to be a night filled with creativity, diversity, and celebration of LGBTQIA+ culture. It is a fantastic opportunity for artists to showcase their talents and for the community to come together and support queer creatives in the North East. Don’t miss out on this exciting event at Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree in November!
