Shopping Mall in Putrajaya Conducts „Social Experiments“ to Test Malaysians‘ Patriotism

A shopping mall located in Putrajaya recently conducted three “social experiments” to gauge the level of patriotism among Malaysians. Split into two parts on TikTok, IOI City Mall posted the first part of the social experiment involving random shoppers in an elevator. The shoppers were tested by reciting the Rukun Negara and singing the national anthem at random times.

In the “Tell us you’re Malaysian, without telling us you’re Malaysian” series, the first video showcased several individuals standing in each corner of the elevator, with the shoppers positioned in the center. After successfully reciting the last principle of the Rukun Negara, the shoppers were handed a flag as a token of participation. Initially taken aback by the randomness of the test, most shoppers managed to complete the task with enthusiasm.

The experiment continued with the individuals in the elevator singing the national anthem, with each person singing a verse and the shopper tasked with singing the last verse. While some shoppers nervously sang along, others showed genuine enthusiasm. The overall response was positive, with most shoppers successfully completing the national anthem.

The second part of the experiment involved playing the national anthem throughout the entire mall to observe how Malaysian shoppers would react. The aim was to see if shoppers would stop what they were doing and stand still out of respect for the national anthem. Initially confused, shoppers eventually understood the message and stood up until the anthem concluded.

The video captured various shoppers, including families with young children and individuals in the ice rink, all standing to attention during the national anthem. Some were even seen singing along, showcasing their patriotic spirit. The social experiment resonated with netizens, who expressed pride and admiration for the display of patriotism among Malaysians, especially with National Day approaching.

Overall, the social experiments conducted by IOI City Mall served as a reminder of the importance of patriotism and national pride. The positive response from shoppers highlighted the enduring spirit of unity and love for the country among Malaysians. As the nation gears up to celebrate National Day, these simple yet impactful tests served as a heartwarming reminder of the values that bind the people of Malaysia together.
