Spate of car burglaries reported at busy hotels in Deerfield Township

Vehicle break-ins have become a common occurrence at hotels and apartment complexes along Fields Ertel Road near Interstate 71 in Deerfield Township, Ohio. However, the frequency of these incidents has escalated this week, causing concern among authorities. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is actively working to address a recent surge in car smash-and-grabs at two prominent hotels in the area.

According to Sgt. Tom Naumovski, approximately 15 vehicles had their windows smashed and belongings stolen at both the Drury Inn and Hampton Inn late Monday and early Tuesday. The majority of these incidents occurred after 5 a.m. on Tuesday, following the conclusion of the extra overnight patrol. Sgt. Naumovski highlighted the influx of guests due to events like the tennis tournament and country music concert in West Chester over the weekend as a contributing factor to the increased criminal activity.

The perpetrators behind these break-ins seem to be targeting specific items such as firearms, credit cards, and cash. While no guns were reported stolen on Monday, there was a close call where a firearm was left in plain sight inside a vehicle. Fortunately, the suspects did not access it, but the potential risk remains a cause for concern.

To prevent falling victim to these crimes, hotel guests are advised to take precautionary measures. It is essential to secure your vehicle by rolling up windows, locking all doors, and activating the car alarm. Avoid leaving any valuables visible inside the car, especially firearms, which should be stored in a safe place within the hotel room. Additionally, parking in well-lit, busy areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic can deter potential thieves.

In the unfortunate event of a car break-in, it is crucial to report the incident to the authorities promptly. Even if nothing was stolen, notifying law enforcement allows them to review surveillance footage and potentially identify the suspects. Residents in Warren County are urged to contact 911 or 513-695-2525 to report any criminal activity.

As the community grapples with these concerning incidents, it is essential for individuals to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to safeguard their belongings. By following the recommended safety precautions and staying alert, residents can help prevent further vehicle break-ins and protect their property.
