Employment hubs are becoming increasingly popular across the county, providing valuable support and resources for individuals seeking employment and training opportunities. One such hub, located at Exeter’s Central Library, offers a range of services including career guidance, training, and volunteer opportunities. Now, Devon County Council is expanding its network of Youth and Adult Employment Hubs to further support individuals across the county.
In partnership with the City Council and three other district councils, Devon County Council has established hubs in various locations. The council is now set to open two more hubs in Ilfracombe and Tiverton, expanding the reach of their services. These hubs provide one-to-one skills and employment support to individuals aged 16 and over, helping them to enter the workforce and prepare for the future.
Funded jointly by Devon County Council and several district councils, including East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon, and North Devon, the hubs offer a ‚one front door‘ approach. This means that individuals can access a range of services and support in one central location, making it easier for them to navigate the employment and training landscape.
The primary goal of each hub is to act as a local resource for those seeking support, employment, or training. They are particularly focused on helping individuals who face barriers to work due to disability, health conditions, or other reasons. The hubs are open to the public both online and in-person, with locations in Barnstaple, Cullompton, Exeter, Honiton, Ilfracombe, and Tiverton.
In addition to supporting individuals, the hubs also work with employers and businesses to help them meet their skills and workforce goals. They offer a variety of programs aimed at developing organizational and employee skills, ultimately benefiting the local economy and community.
Each hub is staffed by advisers who provide one-to-one guidance to those in need. They offer services such as career guidance, CV and interview skills, training and qualifications, work experience, apprenticeships, and supported employment. The team also provides a triage service, directing individuals to the most appropriate resources and continuing to support them until they achieve their goals.
Councillor Rufus Gilbert, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Economic Recovery and Skills, praised the expansion of the hub network, highlighting the benefits it will bring to communities across the county. Exeter City Council Leader Phil Bialyk also emphasized the importance of the Exeter hub, describing it as a valuable asset for the city.

With their focus on providing support, guidance, and resources, the Youth and Adult Employment Hubs are playing a crucial role in helping individuals find employment and training opportunities in Devon.
