The State Service for Supervision and Regulation of the Transport Sector in Tajikistan has recently announced that it is tightening control over the movement of heavy vehicles. This decision comes as part of the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to ensure the proper maintenance and use of the country’s highways, which are continuously being upgraded to meet international standards. With both domestic and foreign investments playing a crucial role in the rehabilitation of these roads, it is essential that all road users adhere to the established norms and regulations.
One significant amendment to the country’s Road Transport Code involves holding shippers and consignees accountable for failing to comply with loading norms on road transport. This change aims to improve safety on the roads and prevent damage to the infrastructure caused by overloaded vehicles. As a result, the Service has requested the Ministry of Industry to enforce these loading norms and ensure compliance across various production enterprises.
To educate and enforce these regulations, the Service has set up working mobile groups that visit cement plants, coal mines, and other production sites to explain the importance of complying with the amended requirements. Over the past few months, these groups have measured the weight of over 100,000 trucks at weighing points and recorded more than 1,000 violations related to oversized and heavy loads. Fines totaling over 3.4 million somonis have been imposed on offenders, highlighting the seriousness of non-compliance with loading norms.
In response to these violations, the Ministry of Transport has taken decisive action to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles on the roads. Minister Azim Ibrohim has instructed the implementation of practical measures with weekly reporting to ensure that vehicles carrying more than 40 tons of cargo are prohibited from operating in the country. This strict enforcement is crucial for maintaining traffic safety and preserving the integrity of the roads.
To facilitate the monitoring of vehicle weight and size, the Ministry of Transport has equipped 30 weighing points along the roads with stationary, dynamic, and mobile scales capable of determining the size and weight of trucks at high speeds. Additional weighing units will soon be installed at key locations, including entry points to major cities and freight points in different regions of the country. This enhanced oversight aims to improve traffic safety and ensure the efficient operation of transportation within Tajikistan.
Overall, the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to tighten control over the movement of heavy vehicles demonstrate a commitment to maintaining road infrastructure and enhancing transportation efficiency. By enforcing loading norms and imposing fines on violators, the government is taking proactive steps to safeguard road safety and promote responsible use of the country’s highways.
