Take a look inside the $619,000 10-foot-wide house built ‚out of spite‘ on a leftover piece of land in Florida.

A unique 10-foot-wide house has been built on a lot in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, sparking interest from those seeking a low-maintenance lifestyle. The 1,547-square-foot home, situated on a 25-foot-wide lot with ample depth, is listed for $619,000. Despite facing opposition from the neighborhood, the house has garnered attention from potential buyers.

The lot where the house now stands was previously an empty residual lot used as a garden by a neighbor. The listing agent, Ryan Wetherhold of Oceanside Real Estate, and the builder, John Atkins, are known for building on these leftover lots. However, they had anticipated having more space for this particular home.

Due to complaints from neighbors, the board disallowed any adjustments to the building plans, forcing the builders to construct a 10-foot-wide house instead of the originally planned 15-foot-wide home. Despite this setback, the house has managed to attract buyers interested in its unique design and features.

The neighborhood where the house is located has a history of smaller lots, with some owners combining lots over time, resulting in uneven spacing. Wetherhold and Atkins have experience building narrow homes on these leftover lots and usually receive some flexibility with building codes. However, in this case, they had to adhere strictly to the regulations.

One interesting feature of the house is the bump-outs, similar to those found in RVs, which provide additional seating space. The home also boasts a custom dining-room table made from boards salvaged from a pier destroyed by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

Despite initially considering a lower price point, Wetherhold decided to list the house for $619,000 after seeing the finished product. The house received significant attention after being featured on ‚Zillow Gone Wild,‘ attracting hundreds of visitors to an open house.

While the neighborhood is known for high-six-figure and million-dollar homes, this 10-foot-wide house offers a unique opportunity for buyers seeking a lower-maintenance property in a desirable area at a more affordable price point. The house has proven to be a hit with those looking for a distinctive living space in a prestigious neighborhood.
