Dr Yii’s recent initiative, the launch of the Humane Animal Society Sarawak (HASS) Kennels at Bark Park Borneo, is a step towards providing a comfortable and well-ventilated shelter for abandoned or rescued dogs.
To support their efforts in protecting, caring for, and safeguarding animals, Dr Yii has allocated RM5,000 as an initial contribution. He also suggests further collaboration, such as advocating for initiatives like Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) to complement the efforts of the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department. Despite facing the challenge of the rabies outbreak, Dr Yii emphasizes the importance of approaching the issue scientifically and humanely, especially when dealing with animals.
In line with the call from Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin to find more compassionate alternatives for managing the stray animal population, Dr Yii believes that TNVR is an effective and humane solution. TNVR involves capturing stray animals humanely, providing health checks, vaccinations, neutering, and releasing them back into their environment. Euthanasia is only considered for animals showing clear signs of rabies.
