The 2024 Texas high school football season is set to kick off on August 29-31, and for many Dallas-area teams, it will mark the beginning of a challenging 10-game regular season. One team that stands out is Duncanville, coming off back-to-back Class 6A Division I state titles. Additionally, they will face regional finalists Lancaster and Cedar Hill, making their schedule one of the toughest in the area.
South Oak Cliff, last year’s 5A Division II state runner-up, also has a challenging non-district schedule. They will face nationally ranked teams like Galena Park North Shore and Duncanville, as well as a strong Longview team that has consistently performed well in recent seasons.
DeSoto, the back-to-back 6A Division II state champion, will face tough competition as well. They are set to play against nationally ranked North Crowley, Georgia state runner-up Creekside, and three regional finalists – Corpus Christi Miller, Lancaster, and Cedar Hill.
Waxahachie is another team with a challenging schedule, facing six teams that are in the preseason state rankings from Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, including powerhouse teams like Duncanville and DeSoto.
Before Melissa and Anna start their district play in District 4-5A Division II, they will each face formidable opponents from outside of Texas. Melissa will take on back-to-back Arkansas 5A state champion Little Rock Parkview, while Anna will face an Oakland team that has been dominant in Tennessee in recent years.
