The Mossos d’Esquadra, the police force of Catalonia, recently arrested a 22-year-old man for hitting two people with his motorcycle while performing stunts at an unauthorized gathering of modified vehicles in Llorenç del Penedès. Despite causing the accident, the man fled the scene without assisting the victims. The Mossos located him days later and seized the motorcycle involved in the incident.
The Catalan police identified the suspect as the alleged perpetrator of four traffic offenses committed on August 4th in Llorenç del Penedès, as well as a charge of falsifying documents.
On the morning of the same day, the Territorial Command Center received a report of a motorcycle hitting pedestrians in an industrial estate in Llorenç del Penedès. A traffic patrol from the Vendrell police station responded to the scene and found a significant gathering of vehicles and individuals, resembling a meet-up of modified, „tuned“ vehicles where reckless driving is often showcased as entertainment.
After deploying additional police resources to address the situation, the officers headed to the accident site where only about fifteen people remained, including the two victims and no sign of the hit-and-run driver or the motorcycle.
Once the victims received medical attention, the police collected all relevant evidence and transferred the investigation to the Traffic Research and Documentation Group of the Tarragona Regional Area.
Days later, the police investigation led to the identification of the perpetrator, a man with a criminal record related to similar offenses. Additionally, they confiscated the motorcycle used in the hit-and-run incident.
The man was arrested on August 13th in Vendrell as the alleged perpetrator of four traffic offenses: reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, causing injuries through negligence, and driving without a license. He was also charged with falsifying documents because the motorcycle he was riding had its serial number erased.
The suspect appeared before a judge at the Vendrell court on August 14th.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of following traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users. It also highlights the diligent work of law enforcement in identifying and apprehending individuals who endanger others through their irresponsible actions.
