In the early hours of Monday, August 19, 2024, a special operation conducted by the Local Police of Eivissa took place in various locations throughout the city. This operation, carried out in coordination with the Insular Council of Eivissa, aimed to enforce regulations regarding passenger transportation within the municipality.
During the operation, which commenced around 5 a.m. at different points in the city, several outcomes were observed:
– Nine fines were issued for providing passenger transportation services without the necessary administrative authorization. Additionally, vehicles operating as VTC (Vehicle for Hire) were identified conducting services without prior registration of passengers, as required by regulations.
– Among the drivers of illegal public transportation (commonly known as pirate taxis), four individuals who underwent drug testing yielded positive results. Particularly alarming was the case of one driver who tested positive for all detectable substances (cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine, cannabis, opioids, and benzodiazepines).
– Two citations were issued to taxi vehicles from another municipality for picking up passengers at a designated stop within the city.
– Thirteen traffic violations were reported.
– A total of ten vehicles were impounded and removed from circulation through the municipal towing service.
These controls, which have been intensified this season, underscore the commitment of the Eivissa City Council against intrusion and illegal passenger transportation. This success is attributed to the excellent work of the Local Police of the municipality and the coordination with the Insular Council in terms of inspection and control.
Transportation Councilor Rubén Sousa emphasized the increased number of fines and vehicle impoundments in the municipality this summer compared to the entire previous legislative term. This demonstrates that impunity in Eivissa has come to an end, and the authorities will not tolerate any further infractions of this nature within the municipality.
In conclusion, the recent operation conducted by the Local Police of Eivissa, in collaboration with the Insular Council, serves as a clear message against illegal passenger transportation and reinforces the commitment to upholding regulations and ensuring the safety and integrity of public transportation services in the city. Through continued vigilance and enforcement, the authorities aim to maintain order and compliance within the transportation sector, safeguarding the interests of both passengers and legitimate service providers.
