The community project carried out by the College Student Council at Siswa Jaya College and volunteer students from the ChECA-iKohza program at MJIIT aimed to raise awareness about environmental impact in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The event, held at the Perumahan Awam Desa Rejang housing area in PPR Desa Rejang, Setapak, included a recycling campaign and a soap-making workshop using waste cooking oil as the main ingredient.
The program was supported by the Centre for Community and Industry Network (CCIN) and officiated by their representative, Puan Suhailah Safie. Participants from local community associations were involved in the event, which began with an engagement session on the importance of recycling and a presentation on the harmful effects of improper waste disposal. She emphasized the significance of repurposing waste cooking oil into useful products like soap, reducing waste and creating sustainable solutions for households. The workshop provided practical insights into sustainable living and encouraged participants to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The project advisor emphasized the educational value of the workshop, particularly for housewives who can utilize recycled oil to make environmentally friendly dishwashing soap. The enthusiasm and participation of the participants were commendable, and plans are in place to continue such programs with more engaging activities in the future.
